Brit Spotting Round-up 8/10

August 10th, 2012

OLYMPIC FAREWELL

Picture
With only a few more days before the world’s greatest sporting event comes to an end media outlets are now buzzing about who the closing ceremony performers will be. Word is the Spice Girls will reunite, along with Kat Bush, George Michael and Jesse J taking the stage at the Olympic after-party. It’s a fairly appropriate mix and ‘international’ enough for American viewers to appreciate.
The Closing Ceremony, featuring more than 4,100 performers, kicks off Sunday at 4pm (ET)

Whoever performs there’s no denying that over the last couple of weeks London has been highlighted in a way that’s made Brits across the world feel proud to be an expat. Let’s hope the feeling of being enthusiastically British and sense of pride doesn’t leave the nation when the TV cameras do.

LEONA IN LA

All very different from London this time last year of course when the city was ablaze with looting and riotous behaviour.

Leona Lewis remembers it all too well. The British singer recalls barricading herself into her home in Hackney, East London and worrying about whether the police would be able to control the madness.

One year later she’s in LA working hard on her new album.

Entitled ‘Glassheart’ the album release date has already been pushed back twice but Lewis claims it’s because she's trying to 'create the best material possible'. And there’s no doubt Fraser T. Smith will help her do that, the producer behind Adele’s material who she’s enlisted for the project.

Not sure if he’s the one who’s convinced her to rap on the record too. During a live web chat, Leona said: "I’ve discovered by voice for rapping. I could probably go up against Nicki Minaj now. I'm actually that good, so I'm coming for you Nicki! London style MCing."

The latest release date is set for October. In the meantime she’s keeping herself in the spotlight, stepping out at the right places in LA and apparently befriending a biker group in the city.

She’s also keeping fans updated on her life and career through a series of video blogs. Here’s the first one:

MARSHA'S TEASE

Undoubtedly one of the most respected and well-known Brit singers in the US Marsha Ambrosius is also busy in the studio working on her much-awaited follow-up to 2011′s Late Nights & Early Mornings.

Not much being leaked about collaborations or release dates on her new project but she has been performing at venues and festivals across the country (catch her in Atlanta during Labor Day weekend at the ONE Musicfest) giving fans a sneak peek of her latest single ‘Friends and Lovers’.
