COMEDIANS HAVE A BALL
March 5, 2012
It's nice to see a British tradition come over here for a change - no matter how foul-mouthed it is. The legendary benefit concert for Amnesty International, known as the Secret Policeman's Ball was hosted in New York city this year, for the first time in it's 36-year history.

Started by Monty Python's John Cleese, the event featured comedians from both sides of the Atlantic including Russell Brand, Eddie Izzard, John Stewart and Sarah Silverman.

But apparently it was young British comedian Jack Whitehall who seemed to charm the crowd the most. I see a US award show hosting gig in his future. Here's a look at how it went down:

THE UK VOICE

Picture
Here we go again, another American show being adapted for UK television. Family Fortune, Top Model, The Apprentice. I could go on but I won't.

Everyone loves a good talent show, at least that's what the BBC are hoping by adapting this US Karaoke-style competition for the UK.

The US version had moderate success over here, but it's hard to compete with the well-established 'Idol' brand, not to mention the heavy-hitter judging panel, which included Jennifer Lopez.

Newcomer Jesse J and old-timer Tom Jones are interesting picks. Will.i.am - great choice but let's hope he doesn't get into a slanging match with Jesse and leave before the first season is over - a la Kelly Rowland and X-Factor UK.

WHEN HARRY MET ANASTAGIA

It's not like he really needs to earn any more cool points but Prince Harry has been mingling with the locals again during his recent Diamond
Jubilee tour honoring Queen Elizabeth II, which has taken him to Belize, The Bahamas and Jamaica. (OK, I know it's not North America, but the American press have been reporting his travels with great interest).

The rock star Prince may have even found his new wife, after being introduced to Miss Bahamas Anastagia Pierre, during a reception for young Bahamian leaders.

She's quoted as saying she's open to marriage offers from the eligible royal but it doesn't look like he took her up on the offer.

Here's the full scoop and a clip of his speech to a group of dignitaries in Nassau: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/prince-harry-meets-the-caribbean-beauty-752499
