Brit Spotting Round-up 7/30

July 30, 2012

OLYMPIC BEEF

Picture
Whether you’re an avid sports fan or an armchair athlete there’s really no getting away from the Olympic fever that’s gripping the world right now.

It’s only been a few days since the games started and there’s already controversy between the UK and the US, over the much-hyped opening ceremony.

It failed to impress some Americans who had no clue about many of the icons or concepts featured while British ex-pats who watched it on NBC a few hours after it happened were outraged that a poignant tribute to victims of the London bomb attacks in 2005 was edited out.

NBC claim they had no indication that the segment was a reference to the attacks and they tailored their coverage to appeal to an American audience.

If you haven’t seen the segment online yet, here it is, featuring Scottish singer Emeli Sande:

ESTELLE VIDEO CONFESSIONS

Picture
Workaholic Estelle has been super busy promoting her new album and as a great way to stay connected with fans the singer has recorded the first installment of a web series showing what life is like for an international recording artist on the road.

It’s up close and personal…just like the new video for the her latest single 'Wonderful Life'.

Directed by Irene Sheffield the video chronicles her world travels and features clips of Estelle performing onstage, greeting fans and preparing for a show.

Check it out…it’s simple but effective:

And her first webisode is just as delightful:

UK ACTORS SHINE

Finally, a quick pat on the back to two UK actors making their mark on the US big screen.

The man whose name is now instantly recognizable, Idris Elba, has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini-series or Movie for his role on the crime series 'Luther'.

The 64th Prime-time Emmy Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, September 23 on ABC

And rising star Aml Ameen has joined the cast of Lee Daniels' 'The Butler' as the young version of the title character.

The film is based on the life of Eugene Allen, a White House servant who worked for eight First Families.

Other big names in the movie include Forrest Whitaker , Oprah Winfrey, Liam Neeson, John Cusack and Robin Williams with production starting later this month in New Orleans.

As you know from BATP’s interview with Aml the young actor was last seen on NBC's Harry's Law.
