Brit Spotting Round-up 3/23March 23, 2012
AML & REBECCA REP UKWe love it whenever a British talent pops up on US TV.
You may not know the name but you know the face. From a rouge police officer in 'The Bill' to lead character Trife in the underground film ‘Kidulthood’ Ameen has been creating a commendable buzz in London and looks set to do the same Stateside. He recently appeared in 'CSI Miami' and was a favourite in last season’s ‘Harry’s Law’ - a legal drama starring Oscar winning actress Kathy Bates. Thankfully his character has returned with the shows second season - you can catch him on Sundays (8pm ET) on NBC (US) *And read more about Aml in our in-depth interview here. Did you catch last Thursday’s 'Grey’s Anatomy' when British-Indian actress Rebecca Hazelwood played Avery’s love interest in the show? Rebecca was born in Wales, grew up in England and was last seen in the cancelled (but quite funny) NBC show‘Outsourced’. We hope she had fun shooting the episode and has now managed to wade through the piles of hate mail from Jesse Williams’ fans after their love scene aired! |
UK BOY BAND MAKE HISTORY
After the hype we reported a couple of weeks ago about this new teen sensation, it seemed inevitable they would continue to create headlines.
But this is one headline I don't think anyone could have predicted. The group has made history by being the first UK group to enter the Billboard album chart at No.1. Not even the Spice Girls did that!
It’s an amazing achievement after only a handful of television appearances and live shows in the US. One Direction mania looks like it’s about to go worldwide.
And in related album sales news, this year has officially been the biggest for UK talent in America. According to figures by BPI (the voice of the UK record labels) UK artists have sold more albums this year in the US than ever before.
Adele’s ‘21’ tops the list for the UK album that sold the most copies over here, followed by Mumford & Sons and then Coldplay.
To further compliment the UK’s music scene, recent research by the VisitBritain, the British tourism agency, revealed that music is among the top reasons why people visit the UK.
As UK acts become more exportable it seems their success is also good for the country’s image - and that can’t be a bad thing.

USHER'S FEELING THE UK SOUND
After an eye-opening tour last year with UK rapper Tinie Tempah, Usher has decided to adopt some UK flavour on this next project.
He was so inspired by the unique sound and production he revealed he's teaming up with British musician and producer Labrinth for a track on his new album.
The RnB star, who is a big fan of Labrinth, told British radio station Capital FM, "That is my big surprise for London. You know me and Tinie Tempah, we toured together here in London and it was my opportunity to get close to him and just listen to all the different things that he and Labrinth had been working on and listen to all the music that I know and admire that Labrinth did."
And if you want to get ahead before the hype about Labrinth begins, take a listen to his big UK hit with Tinie Tempah, 'Earthquake' (the remix version featuring fire-hot UK rappers Kano, Wretch 32 and Busta Rhymes)
