This time last year the world was salivating over the spectacular that was the London Olympics. A year later Kate and William have put the UK in the spotlight again with the birth of their son, Prince (who knows?) of Cambridge.
Twitterverse blew up after the future King’s birth. At one point there were 25,300 tweets per minute about the Royal baby! None of them, however, were from the first member of the Royal family to get a Twitter account - Prince Andrew. He’s already got over 35,000 followers and has tweeted 30 times!
It’s obvious why the Brits care; triumphs like the Olympics and Andy Murray’s recent Wimbledon win help cement a weakening British identity. It’s an experience that Brits of all backgrounds can rally around and share. But what’s all the fuss over here about?
US media have been on Royal baby watch for weeks, tea parties will be taking place across the country and there was even a live feed of the hospital before the birth was announced.
It’s true that all the pomp and circumstance of a Royal family has always intrigued Americans. Especially the fairytale aspect of Kate and William’s relationship. But more significantly is the love affair Americans had with Princess Diana. This affection has clearly been transferred to her son and no doubt will now be heaped onto the new baby Prince.
US ROYALS - SORT OF!
The US version of Royalty, Brad and Angelina, have been fixated on the Brits too - but for a different reason. The pair are said to be obsessed with British soap 'Eastenders' and are watching it every chance they get.
It’s apparently all research for a film project set in the East end of London.
Or maybe they're contemplating a guest appearance at the Queen Vic to get tips from soon-to-be married Tanya for their upcoming wedding in France. Get the bunting out!
