Brit Spotting Round-up 5/21

BRIT ACTORS - HELLO & GOODBYE!

Picture
As one Brit actor embarks on a new journey another’s ride comes to an end.

First, we say goodbye to Hugh Laurie in his role as Gregory House, the doctor we loved to hate.

After fooling US audiences for years with his American accent, Laurie has hung up the cane of the cranky character he's played for a remarkable eight seasons. The final episode of 'House' aired tonight.

At its peak the show attracted audiences of over 20 million, gained four Emmy nominations for Best Drama and six for star Hugh Laurie.

And as well as providing some great storylines and gripping scenarios the show made the Guinness World Records 2012 edition as the world’s most popular television show, with 81.8 million viewers in 66 countries. Now that’s impressive!

But Laurie fans will be glad to know that he could be back on our screens very soon as he’s apparently teaming back up with former comedy partner Stephen Fry on a future project.

Here’s the cast talking about the end of 'House':

And look out for Daniel Radcliffe’s new project which involves collaborating with American actor Jon Hamm.

The pair will play the same Russian war medic at different stages of his life in a comedy drama, based on a collection of short stories by Russian playwright Mikhail Bulgakov.

It’ll mean Hamm mastering an English accent and he’s found the perfect way to learn -  by imitating Colin Firth.

“I have been watching Bridget Jones’ Diary on infinite loop and I think I’ve finally got this accent thing sorted,” he says!

A Young Doctor’s Notebook will broadcast on Sky Arts next year.

Get ready for more UK shows or shows about the UK as the Queen’s Jubilee and Olympics approach.

Americans can get their fill of ‘britishness’ next week when BBC America launches their ‘Summer of London’ series.

Described as ‘brilliantly British and exceptionally English programming’ it features ‘The Brit List’; a series of specials hosted by BBC America’s pop culture correspondent Asha Leo.

From the ‘sexiest’ to the ‘baddest’ Leo will be showcasing some of Britain’s best known celebs.

In addition to the three specials, Leo will be counting down the top places, food, fashion and arts in and around London. The series launches on May 28th.

KATIE AND THE ROYALS

If you’re an expat wishing you could take a trip home to celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign, ABC have got you covered.  They’re sending Katie Couric over to interview the Royal family.

The programme, titled ‘The Jubilee Queen with Katie Couric’, is billed as the only American interview with Prince William and he’s expected to answer questions about his first year of married life and speak candidly about his mother Princess Diana.

Couric also speaks to Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as well as several members of the Queen’s staff, who share personal observations about her daily life, like what’s on her Facebook page!

The broadcast will also give viewers special access inside Buckingham Palace.

It airs on ABC on May 29th and is followed on June 5th by a ‘Concert for The Queen: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration’ featuring performances by Stevie Wonder, Sir Paul McCartney and Jesse J.

UK:CUE IS HERE

Obviously we love all things that salute British culture at BATP and were chuffed to hear about the launch of a new magazine focused on celebrating British film, theatre and television.

UK:CUE is the brainchild of Larry Jafee, an entertainment blogger, author and creator of the ‘Walford Gazette’ - the world’s only publication dedicated to ‘EastEnders’.

His concept is simple; “one magazine that caters to the needs of Anglophiles and expatriates alike who require a British accent in their entertainment fare”

The print magazine had a limited release at BritWeek in LA and at the Olivier Awards in New York recently and is also available for purchase via the website: http://www.uk-cue.com

The digital app is underway and future plans for the online magazine include interactive theatre ticketing.

For more info on UK:CUE or investment/advertising opportunities email Larry Jafee at: [email protected]
